The heart of ancient Samarkand and one of the most famous squares in Central Asia. The 15th–17th century architectural ensemble consists of three grand madrasahs — Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor and Tilya-Kori — adorned with mosaics, majolica and gilded domes. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the evening the square is beautifully illuminated.
